The peace of the off-season
Winter changes the tempo of Lake Powell. Boat traffic eases, the water often settles and the low sun brings gold and rose tones to the canyon walls.
It is a beautiful season for a quiet paddle, a camera and a little more room to take the place in.
Why winter can feel comfortable
With the right layers and a steady pace, cool-weather paddling can be remarkably comfortable. Our sit-inside kayaks help protect legs and core from wind and spray.
Canyon walls hold warmth in the sun, and the absence of peak-summer heat makes the day feel less rushed.
What to wear
Bring a moisture-wicking base layer, a warm mid-layer, a wind-resistant outer layer, quick-dry bottoms and water-friendly footwear. A beanie, gloves and a dry change of clothes are smart additions.
We provide the kayak, paddle, life vest and dry bag. Bring water and dress for the weather you see that morning.
What the day looks like
We meet at Antelope Point Launch Ramp for a safety talk and gear orientation, then paddle toward Antelope Canyon. The route is generally about 2.5 miles each way, with a water-level-dependent hike of roughly 1 to 3 miles round trip.
If conditions are unsafe, we will adjust, reschedule or cancel rather than force the day. Safety and comfort come first.
